Budgeting Tips For Your Vacation

I'm just weeks away from my vacation and I cannot wait! I really need a break now because I've been working so hard for months and could do with getting away. However, we're on a major budget this year as a direct result of debts and my husband losing his job a while ago so we're on a budget.

To be honest, I'm not really bothered about a budget because we're half board anyway so our food is in with the price. Also, I'm off to Sorrento and walking around the town makes me incredibly happy and I don't feel the need to spend spend spend there. I don't need to because there are plenty of free attractions. In some places this is not as easy. For example, if you're heading to a Spanish resort then, short of lying on the beach all day, there isn't that much to do if you have no money.

However, there are some travel budgeting tips that can really help you to bring down the cost of going on vacation and leave you more money to spend:

1. Avoid spending at the airport - Airport products are expensive if you buy in the shops there (with the exception of duty free) so make sure you have everything you need before you go.

2. Only spend on the last couple of days - It is tempting to buy everything you want when you see it if you are on vacation but then it becomes hard to draw the line. I have two words for you - impulse buys. They are a waste of money and you won't use or even want half of them. If you leave it until the last couple of days you will only buy what you truly want.

3. Take only one credit card on vacation - Taking your credit cards on holiday is extremely bad because you are always tempted to spend on them. You should take one for emergencies just in case but do not take any more than that because you'll come back in debt. If you don't take credit cards then you can't spend on them.

4. Use your hotel room safe wisely - Most hotel rooms have a safe in them so why not use it? You can then choose to take only what you need out with you at any given time. This will stop you overspending.

5. Don't put everything on our hotel room tab - There is no worse way to round your holiday off than to have to pay a mssive tab because you've put everyhing onto it. Always pay cash whenever you can so your final bill is minimal.
